Fraudulent Recovery Scams

Posted by IMer | Posted in Internet Marketing | Posted on 03-09-2010

Hitman scams are a somewhat recent phenomenon in the world of con artists. These seem to be growing and people should be aware of what they are and what to do. It’s easier than ever to acquire email addresses of people that you don’t know, which scammers use to their advantages.

The scam artist send an e-mail to the victim, claiming that they were contracted to murder the e-mail’s recipient. However, this fake hitman has had second thoughts, and they will be willing to let you live if you pay them a certain fee. The recipient of the email is often surprised and horrified at this. If someone actually believes this scam, it can cost them thousands of dollars.

This kind of scam profits by manipulating a person’s fear. After all, hitmen on TV kill people for various, inconsequential reasons all of the time. These kinds of things do not happen to regular people, and especially if said person has done no wrong.

There are people who are terrified, however, and immediately send the amount of cash that has been requested. Others have been smart enough to turn the e-mail over to the proper authorities. If you ever receive a threatening e-mail like this, contact the authorities.

Another angle related to this scam is an e-mail supposedly from a London, or some other big city police department. They claim they have arrested a suspect, in these threats, and the person’s name is on the list. The e-mail proceeds to ask you for personal details. All this serves to do is give the scammer all the means to steal your identity. As a result, you should use telephone-searching.info/443/485/ or another telephone look-up service to verify the validity of these callers or email senders, so you can rest assured that it’s a scam.

The personal information gleaned from the victim can be used to clear out the bank accounts and credit cards of the person, robbing them of all their money. This has led to the loss of thousands of dollars as well as ruining one’s credit record.

This variety of scam is expected to become more prevalent with time. One method of preventing fraud is to simply delete e-mails in which you do not recognize the sender. Even e-mails that seem legitimate, and which may seem to be coming from a reputable company, should be treated carefully. If you’re not actively engaged in business with someone, don’t buy it. Even businesses like Yahoo and WalMart can be invoked by a scammer if they want to attempt stealing your information.

It is very important to remember that your e-mail is private, just as your regular postal mail. Even though, through modern technology, that account can be surveyed, it can only allow the scanner in if you open his e-mail. Just delete any suspicious emails to avoid Hitman scams and any other type of fraud.
