Why It’s Great to Be a Work at Home Mom

Tired of sitting around in your office desk, waiting for the time when you can clock out so you can finally go home to your family? Do you find yourself worrying a lot about how your kids are doing, or are you raring to change your career path to a place where you’re in charge? If so, why don’t you try being a work at home mom? More and more women these days are opting out of the traditional office set-up to become work at home moms, and a lot of them have met a high rate of success, whether they started blogging for money, managing their own business, or just telecommuting to work.
In any case, working at home has its definite advantages, especially for moms who are juggling their jobs and their responsibilities to their families:
1. Big savings on gas and commuting expenses: Working professionals can spend hundreds of dollars every month just to get to work, especially when they live far away from their offices. And if you think that owning a car will make things better, think again. Traffic is often notoriously heavy in big cities, and those who bring their cars to work end up spending more on gas and parking fees. When you work at home, however, you won’t have to worry about spending money to get to work — all you need to do is walk over to where your PC is, a room or two away.
2. You can spend breaks with the young ‘uns: Moms who work in an office often wish that they could spend more time with their children, especially because they end up getting too tired at the end of each day. Weekends never seem to last long enough, either. When you choose to work at home, however, you get to see your kids more and spend more quality time with them. Take advantage of your breaks by playing with your tots, going out for a short walk with them, or fixing them a few sandwiches and a pitcher of juice. Not a lot of moms can be as lucky!
3. Saving on daycare One of the best things about being a work at home mom is the fact that you don’t have to rely on a day care center to make sure that your kids are taken care of while you’re working at your desk. Now that your kids are close by, you can check on them as needed to see whether or not they’re having a good, safe time with each other. If you’re headed towards a particularly busy day, you can ask for some help from a baby sitter or a relative who has some free time to spare. That way, you don’t have to shuttle to and from your kids and your tasks.
4. You get to explore your strengths, career-wise, and do what you love the best It’s always important to be doing what you love the best, and being a work at home mom gives you a chance to find out more about your strengths and what you’re passionate about. Some mothers find out that they love to make money blogging, while others find themselves enjoying the small business they just put up. Whatever you choose to work on, just be sure that you’re doing what you love, and that you like what you do.
The reason why more mothers are choosing to work at home are varied, but one thing is certain: working at home can help moms strike a good balance between work and family, as well as help them expand their professional horizons. If you think that being a work at home mom is the best tactic for you to take, why not consider your options? It might just be your best career move yet.
